Title: Vases for Laocoon Dimensions: 19 inches tall Materials: Ceramic; hand-built using coil, slab and pinch techniques Location: Deerfield Beach, Florida
I started taking a pottery class at a senior center in 2019. These vessels were created during covid shutdown. While taking a zoom art history class I became interested in the story and sculpture of “Laocoon and his sons”. It seemed throughout covid the messenger was always under attack. In these vessels the body of the vessel is erupting and entangling upon itself. (When the senior center closed I enrolled in a class at the local college, I made my pottery at home and brought it into the college to be fired)
