Teacher Workshop: Haas Brothers: Uncanny Valley

Thu, Jun 4 / 9 am–1:30 pm

Haas Brothers: Uncanny Valley

MAD invites NYC educators to join us for a workshop in connection with Haas Brothers: Uncanny Valley. This program will begin with a private tour of the exhibition followed by an artmaking workshop with incoming MAD Artist in Residence Karyn Lao, co-founder of the artist duo Mookntaka

Drawing inspiration from artistic collaborations, Karyn will guide participants through a joyful process of co-creating fantastical creatures using an air-dry modeling compound and playful embellishments. Join us for a fun day connecting with fellow teachers, experimenting with new artmaking techniques, and generating new ideas to bring back to your classroom!

MAD will provide all art materials as well as coffee and morning refreshments.

New York State Educators will earn 4.5 CTLE hours.

We strive to make our programs accessible to all teachers. If you are experiencing financial hardship and do not teach at a NYC Title 1 school, please email the education department at education@madmuseum.org to request a fee waiver.

About the Artist

Karyn Lao is an artist based in Brooklyn, NY who explores the pompom as an object that represents community— many parts connected by a common thread. She sculpts pompoms and glass into colorful, functional statement pieces. She also makes interactive inflatable sculptures as ½ of collaborative duo, Mookntaka! Whether it be sculpting inflatables, creating jewelry, or teaching workshops, the heart of Karyn’s work is to bring people together and connect through play.
