Maria Tsimpiskaki sees jewelry design as a combination of line, color and material that is the result of a moment’s frame of mind and emotional state. Born in Rethimno, Crete, she graduated from the Athens University of Economics and Business, and became a jewelry designer in 1990 after attending painting, sculpture, jewelry-making and design classes. Tsimpiskaki believes that jewelry is a product of the lines and shapes that we encounter in the natural world, in everyday life, or even in the imagination; the colors that are inherent in the materials; and the materials themselves, whether luxurious or humble, complementary or disparate. She works each piece by hand using traditional and modern techniques, aiming to create jewelry that is flawless in construction and finish, perfectly fitting the human anatomy so that it becomes an essential and cherished accessory that sets off the personality of the wearer. Tsimpiskaki lives and works in Athens.
