Jake McCombe
East London–based contemporary jewelry designer Jake McCombe takes inspiration from mathematical shapes and scientific symbols to create bold, abstract wearable sculptures. In a distinctive working process derived from his background in metal engineering, he starts with raw materials, initially utilizing large industrial machinery in a refined way to formulate his ideas and transform drawings into objects. He cuts, heats, forms, then slices up, reinventing the simplest of materials to yield surprising outcomes, and finishes each piece by hand using traditional jewelry techniques. McCombe seeks to empower the wearer through his jewelry, which he describes as minimal sculpture, made both to define and to frame the human form.
