Born and raised in Northern Ireland, Grainne Morton moved to Edinburgh to attend Edinburgh College of Art. Her parents own an antique shop, and combined trips to visit their daughter with buying for their shop, scouring Edinburgh’s many antique stores and fairs. Morton tagged along and was hooked on collecting—and as her time at art school progressed, it became apparent that her collection was becoming her inspiration. Gathering objects, both found and fabricated, is the starting point for most of her designs. She collages these objects together by arrangement and rearrangement, until they all connect with one another, creating lively, colorful and spontaneous stories. She works in a miniature scale, using a diverse range of materials so that viewers become more involved in these pieces that spark memories and ideas—and make them smile. Morton lives and works in Edinburgh with her husband and two children.
