When Erik Tidäng came in contact with metal and jewelry for the first time in his early 20s, he was hooked. All the techniques and possibilities with this material made his head spin. In 1999, he graduated from Konstfack, University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, Sweden. The same year he founded LOD together with five other metal craftsmen and jewelers. LOD is the studio/gallery that has since been the base for his work.
Tidäng has always been fascinated by how small simple elements together can build large complex shapes. In his artistry, he often returns to this. He strives for accuracy in all details so that the end result is just the way he wants it to be. When small imperfections sneak in, it creates problems, especially when multiplied. The idea is blurred when expressed in material. While it has been his desire to counteract this, lately he has begun to investigate how the small inaccuracies can be expressed. Give in to the gravel in the machinery. Tidäng now allows chance and material properties to influence him to a greater extent than before.
