Melanie Tomlinson
Melanie Tomlinson works with illustration and metal to create vibrant and intensely detailed narrative jewelry and small sculptural objects that reflect her deep love and passion for nature. She is particularly interested in the role of traditional folk narrative to explore the complex relationships between communities and the natural world. She has developed and refined her specialist techniques for printing onto sheet metal for over fifteen years.
Tomlinson trained in illustration at Birmingham Institute of Art & Design, England, completing her Master of Arts degree in 1994. She has won several awards for her work - recently from the Arts Council of England and the Feeney Foundation. She has exhibited widely in the UK and overseas including in ‘Collect’ the Crafts Council’s annual exhibition of contemporary applied art held at the Saatchi Gallery in London and at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Her jewelry has been commissioned by the Tate Modern and British Museum to complement their exhibition program.
