Born and based in Istanbul, jeweler Burcu Sülek designs contemporary jewelry. After receiving a degree from Istanbul Technical University's Management Engineering Department, and working for over 13 years as a marketing manager for global consumer electronics companies, Sülek is enjoying the newfound freedom to express herself through her own jewelry line. And contemporary jewelry makes this freedom more complete by granting her infinite flexibility to create whatever she desires. As proof, Sülek used sponges in her Emptiness Collection. This material allowed her to freely add color to her pieces while letting them grow bigger, and she never had to worry about the weight of the largest pieces, as sponge is so light regardless of its size. These lines from Rumi clearly convey how she felt while she created the Emptiness Collection: “In this world of trickery, emptiness is what your soul wants..."
