Laura Williams
Laura Williams (England) trained at City & Guilds of London, where she developed a strong foundation in traditional goldsmithing techniques. Working primarily in sterling silver and 18-carat gold, Laura creates distinctive jewelry that merges a contemporary design sensibility with the discipline and refinement of classic fine jewelry forms.
Williams’s practice is inspired by the concept of a “bed of nails.” Using lengths of wire turned on their ends and meticulously filed, she transforms rigid materials into sculptural surfaces rich with texture, pattern, and rhythm. Her work explores contrasts between the
modern and the traditional, the structural and the organic. Light plays across the wire ends, animating each piece and allowing unexpected, organic forms to emerge from precise, ordered grids. This innovative technique earned her a prestigious Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council Award. She is also a trade freeman of the Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers.
