Jessie Bensimon
Jessie Bensimon (France) is an artist whose practice bridges sculpture and jewelry. She graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris with a degree in engraving and sculpture and pursued further study in Florence with painters Roberto Ciabani and Jules Maidoff, and in Ottawa with sculptor John Sadler.
Jewelry has long been integral to her sculptural language. Bensimon refined her techniques in applied arts and design through work with Parisian jewelers and study at the École Boulle. The works presented at MAD center on cuffs and necklaces fashioned from antique and contemporary textiles, intricately embroidered with pearls or gemstones. Her contemporary approach draws on layered historical references, creating a nuanced dialogue between East and West. Jessie has exhibited at numerous international shows, recently.
