Natalie Baker
Natalie Baker (Scotland) studied jewelry and object design in Sydney, Australia. Her practice explores a dynamic play of opposites, where the hard-edged sculptural forms of the built environment are punctuated by flashes of color drawn from the natural world. Working with concrete and glass, materials rarely associated with adornment, Baker transforms architectural matter into refined, wearable works of art. Reclaimed glass is set into silver cells with concrete, then ground and polished using traditional techniques until crisp lines and luminous color emerge.
Drawn to transparency and reflection, she embraces glass for its depth and vitality, and silver for its ability to amplify light. The dialogue between reflective metal, richly colored glass, and smooth polished concrete creates shifting visual effects. Each piece is designed to respond to movement, allowing color and light to change subtly as the jewelry engages with the body and its surrounding environment through careful balance, material rigor, and poetic restraint.
