MADmakes with Luam Melake

Thu, Jul 19 / 6–8 pm

Luam Melake’s mixed-media textile works operate between painting and sculpture, simultaneously addressing surface, structure, form, and materiality. Join her to create experimental, multidisciplinary objects by working fibers and paints into a sculptural form. After molding metal mesh into a three-dimensional artwork, participants will elaborate on the composition by needle-weaving fibers through the mesh and applying a variety of materials to the surface.

Led by artists-in-residence in MAD’s Artist Studios Program, MADmakes is a drop-in, hands-on series where visitors can test their skills at art making and creative production. MADmakes provides an opportunity for visitors to better understand and appreciate the workmanship that goes into contemporary studio practice today. Visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels are invited to create something new every month.

Please review our health and safety protocols before you arrive. MAD strongly recommends all visitors six months and older are vaccinated against Covid-19 and visitors ages two and up wear face coverings, even if vaccinated. Thank you for your cooperation.
