Join MAD for a screening of the classic animated musical, The Last Unicorn, selected by artist Saya Woolfalk in conjunction with her exhibition, Saya Woolfalk: Empathic Universe.
Based on Peter S. Beagle’s 1968 novel and crafted from hand drawn and painted cel-animation techniques popularized by Walt Disney Studios, the fantasy film tells the tale of a villainous king who plots to destroy all of the world's unicorns. When a young unicorn learns that she's in danger and may soon be the last of her kind, she leaves the safety of her protected forest and enlists the help of Schmendrick , a gentle, albeit clumsy, sorcerer. Together, they embark on a long and dangerous journey with one goal: to defeat the king and save the unicorns from extinction.
The all-star cast includes Mia Farrow, Jeff Bridges, Angela Lansbury, and Christopher Lee, with music by platinum-selling artist Jimmy Webb performed by the group America and the London Symphony Orchestra.
