Ceramic Rattles with Chenlu Hou

Join MAD 2024 Artist Studios alum Chenlu Hou for an intensive ceramic workshop inspired by Designing Motherhood: Things that Make and Break Our Births Using hand-building, participants will craft artistic terracotta rattles of their own invention and learn techniques to explore clay through touch, burnishing, and rhythmic repetition. As participants create a tactile art-object, they will learn the skills of rattle making as it relates to Hou’s own practice: exploring the object as a tool for sensory exploration, inclusion, vulnerability, and gentle experimentation.

All skill levels welcome. Space is limited. Fired projects will be available for pick-up on Thu, Mar 19 between 5 and 8 pm.

NOTE: The ceramic rattles are not safe for children to use.
