ArtsLab: Ceramic Superpower Shoe

Fri, Sep 4 & 25 / 4–6 pm

Ceramic Superpower Shoe

NOTE: This is a two-class workshop. Class 1 will take place on Fri, Sept 4. Class 2 will take place on Fri, Sept 25. Classes begin at 4 pm and end at 6 pm. Teens are strongly encouraged to attend both classes to create a finished work.

Join 2024 MAD Artist Studios alumna Michelle Im for a hands-on workshop inspired by the forthcoming exhibition Nike: Form Follows Motion (Sept 12, 2026–Mar 7, 2027) exploring how footwear can tell stories of innovation, identity, and personal expression. Through ceramic hand building and sculptural design, teens will design, sculpt, and glaze a ceramic shoe that represents their own unique superpower.

Class 1: Build Your Shoe
On Sept 4, teens will learn foundational hand-building techniques as they transform clay into an expressive shoe sculpture that combines imaginative design with three-dimensional form.

Class 2: Decorate and Glaze Your Shoe
On Sept 25, teens will use colorful underglazes to bring their designs to life while exploring surface decoration and pattern. After the application of a clear glaze, the ceramic shoe will be ready to take home.

Space is limited, and registration is required in advance. Have questions? Email us at education@madmuseum.org.
