Born and raised in Ossining, New York, and now based in New York City, Dina Rudeen makes jewelry inspired by textural ethnic ornamentation as well as the graphic minimalism of mid-century design. Handcrafted with elements of leather and wood, with a recent focus on the latter, her work brings these natural materials, traditionally associated with rustic themes, into a contemporary milieu. A love of Modernist sculpture informs hand-carved pieces often accented with semiprecious stones, resulting in unexpected yet elegant unions. A passion for lush, organic color can be seen in bold and playful painted earrings that evoke the dynamism of a graphic art print. Rudeen uses a low-waste process that involves the use of upcycled, reclaimed, and/or vintage elements in all of her work.
