Kick off your Halloween weekend early by joining At Play performing artist-in-residence NIC Kay for a drop-in evening of costumes, sound sampling, storytelling, and shadow play at the site of Studio PSK’s installation Polyphonic Playground.
This family-friendly program invites thrill seekers of all ages to play on the Polyphonic Playground, which will feature a haunted house–inspired soundscape of spooky audio samples for one day only. Come dressed in costume, or make a mask on-site, to learn about vocal looping, share a scary story, and play with different shadow-casting lighting effects.
NIC Kay is an interdisciplinary artist who creates performances and performative spaces. As an At Play resident, NIC plans to produce a new work, Polyphonic Overground, inspired by children’s television shows and the sociological concept of “parallel play.” Often incorporating digital video and audio into their performances, NIC is obsessed with the act and process of moving or changing place, the production of space and position, and the clarity or meaning gleaned from shifting perspectives.
