Qui êtes-vous, Polly Maggoo? (Who are You Polly Maggoo?)

1966, dir. William Klein with Dorothy MacGown, Jean Rochefort, Sami Frey 102 min, 35mm
Inspired by his work as one of Vogue’s boldest photographers, Klein’s first feature film is among his most famous and enduring works. A razor-edged satire of Parisian high fashion and haute couture, Klein’s film follows the eponymous Polly, a Brooklyn-born supermodel working the runways of Paris, as she is hounded by a frenzied French television crew. Along the way, Klein holds a mirror to a particular side of ’60s youth culture and provides a perceptive and highly-stylized critique of its excesses and pretensions.
