Join MAD for a screening of the surrealist animation classic Fantastic Planet, selected by artist Saya Woolfalk in conjunction with her exhibition, Saya Woolfalk: Empathic Universe.
Fantastic Planet is set on a distant planet called Ygam, where a humanoid species called Oms are domesticated playthings of the planet’s giant blue inhabitants, Draags. Terr, an Om held captive since infancy, escapes and organizes a revolt with radical fellow Oms, who are resisting the Draags’ oppression and violence. This politically minded work of science-fiction is a parabolic reflection on animal rights, colonialism, and oppression.
