Design Happy Hour: Statement Cuffs with Debra Rapoport

Thu, May 22 / 6–8 pm

Join artist and fashion icon Debra Rapoport for a jewelry workshop and open bar of wine and beer. Using recycled materials such as toilet paper rolls, plastic mesh, postcards, and bottle tops, participants will create unique statement cuffs. MAD will provide all art materials, with participants invited to bring their own visual elements they wish to incorporate as the base of their project, such as scraps of fabric, magazine pages, etc.

Design Happy Hour invites the public ages 21 and up to enjoy an open bar of wine and beer while exploring design techniques with some of the city's most exciting makers and creatives. All activities take place in the Museum’s studio classroom.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Debra Rapoport works with nontraditional and repurposed materials to create embellishments and accessories for which she is widely admired for wearing with great panache. Rather than consume, Rapoport reinvents and curates her closet, transcending from fashion into personal style. Rapoport is featured in the film Advanced Style, as well as the three Advanced Style books and Advanced Style TEDx talk with Ari Seth Cohen. She has taught at the University of California, Davis, New York University, the Museum of Arts and Design, and MoMA. Her work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Los Angeles County of Museum Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum in Athens, Greece, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, the Museum of Arts and Design, and the National Museum of Sweden.
