London-based artist Sarah King is an experimental jeweler who works conceptually with varied materials, forms and structures to make sculptural yet feminine pieces. For the last 20 years she has experimented with both precious and non-precious materials, and pioneered the use of bioresin, an ecologically sourced plastic, in her signature hollow forms. The pieces she created for LOOT 2014 include silver inlay, transporting the traditional jewelry method of decoration called piqué to a contemporary context. Most pieces are made in series and are variations on a theme—and sometimes these variations are combined into one neckpiece. King works from Cockpit Arts, a creative-business incubator for designer-makers. She currently teaches short courses at Central Saint Martins and Morley College, as well as private classes in her studio. She has also collaborated on public art projects and art installation works with her American architect husband, Jeffery Turko.
