Rie Taniguchi
A Japanese-born designer/maker trained and based in the UK, Rie Taniguchi received her MA in Silversmithing, Jewelry, and Allied Crafts from London Guildhall University. She makes objects to look at and/or to wear, primarily depicting various life forms, with a focus on endangered species and related concerns. Taniguchi aims to express the essence of life within a given environment, making her pieces lifelike rather than realistic. Influenced by images from her childhood, she draws from photographs, films, and real life before drawing from memory and designing. In her work, she uses a mixture of techniques—such as press forming, raising, constructing, and carving with metal—to create softer, more organic shapes.
