Karin Roy Andersson
Karin Roy Andersson grew up in Umeå, in the northern part of Sweden. She has always been interested in fish and the world of the oceans—frightening, exciting and rife with the beautiful tension between these feelings. Andersson is intrigued by how fish look, how they move and their exceptional behavior, some species change sex, size and identity. Her recent work is composed of scales made of recycled plastics and silver. Attracted to multiplicity and recurrence, she creates structures using little elements to build dynamic patterns, expressing harmony and balance on a small scale. Andersson received her MFA from the School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg. She is the artistic project leader for Four, a contemporary jewelry gallery. She and her colleague Sanna Svedestedt Carboo are also responsible for Diagonal, which coordinates exhibitions, events and projects to communicate jewelry art.
