Helena Sandström
Helena Sandström lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden, where she runs a studio and a shop. She started working in jewelry when she was very young, as a goldsmith apprentice, and then went on to art school, graduating with an MFA from Konstfack, National College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. She loves to work with her hands and to give form to an idea or a feeling, and to interpret a theme and translate it into wearable pieces. She frequently works with silver and zinc, but her materials are also very often made of gold, textiles or eggshell—it all depends on what she wants to express. Historically jewelry has often been used to show power or wealth, but Sandström believes that jewelry can also be an accessible way of communicating identity and ideas between people.
