Jewelry designer and artist Inni Pärnänen lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. Intrigued by the wide variety of possibilities that jewelry provides, she explores structures and materials through her work—and the materials themselves, while often chosen at random, are what determine the structure and expression of her jewelry. Pärnänen has studied the integral qualities of anticlastic and cell-like formations, and the little spaces within these formations often play an important role in her work. Whether she is using precious metals or other materials, her moment of discovery occurs when she finds out how the technique she has chosen affects the shape and structure of each piece. Pärnänen has recently widened her practice into other realms of design, including jewelry packaging and fashion design. She received her Master’s degree from the University of Industrial Arts, and has been producing her own collection since 1999.
