Fangding "Andie" Xu
Fangding “Andie” Xu is from Beijing, China and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York where she is studying jewelry at Pratt Institute. She creates wearable sculptures with both precious and non-precious materials. Xu is influenced by eastern philosophy, the aesthetics of her traditional Chinese upbringing, and her western art education. These diverse influences inspire her to juxtapose both concept and materials to achieve dynamic and beautifully crafted wearable pieces. Her work is a human attempt to frame nature by concentrating on the production of illusion and modification of perception through experiences with light and space. She is inspired by the Tibetan Buddhism idea of luminous emptiness, which contains the ultimate truth and totality of the universe.
