Chris Boland was born and grew up in York, England, surrounded by the eroding limestone of the city’s ancient walls and churches, and he has a lifelong fascination with materials, particularly rocks and metals. The gemstone is of fundamental importance in his work. He uses only natural, untreated stones and seeks to tell their story through unique designs in metal, taking inspiration from the minerals’ formation and structure.
