YeJin Choi
YeJin Choi (Korea) is trained in metal and contemporary jewelry whose practice centers on transformation through material. She works primarily with Shrinkles, a heat-shrinking plastic film commonly used in the toy industry, which she reimagines as a refined and expressive medium for wearable art. Through drawing and the controlled application of heat, the plastic contracts, curls, and folds into organic forms inspired by plants and natural growth.
The resulting works evoke the sensation of watching a flower bloom in accelerated time, capturing energy, movement, and change within a single moment. Chance plays a critical role in Choi’s process, allowing unexpected textures and surfaces to emerge as the material responds to heat. This balance between intention and unpredictability gives her jewelry a sense of vitality and delicacy that challenges assumptions about plastic as rigid or disposable.
Choi’s innovative approach has received international recognition. In 2025, she was awarded the Preziosa Young prize.
