Rho Tang is a contemporary jewelry artist based in Beacon, New York. Her background in architectural design informs her understanding of form, space, geometry, and volume, as evidenced in her minimalist approach to jewelry creations. With her “Trace” collection, she uses niobium to craft iridescent works that evoke bodies of water, while her ongoing series “Evolution of Being” is inspired by mitosis, the process of replicating cells. Tang notes that we experience different degrees of evolution, both physically and psychologically, throughout our lives, redefining ourselves and developing inner strength through self-learning and self-exploration. Working with mother-of-pearl, she composes each piece from identical components, with flexible joints that allow for transformation, to express different modalities similar to the genetic variations that occur in the natural process of evolution.
