A photo-jewelry artist based in Ashfield, Massachusetts, Jen Smith uses all aspects of photography—literal or abstract, her own or collected and recycled—in combination with traditional jewelry-making techniques. She continually explores the long history of photography to formulate a new vision, using jewelry as an unexpected context for intimate conversations. Images from nature and glimpses of faces from old Victorian portraits frequent her designs, whether in the form of miniature framed pictures in silver or bronze or torn and collaged, linked and strung to wrap around the wrist or neck. In addition to one-of-a-kind, limited-edition photo jewelry, she makes personalized pieces in which she incorporates a client’s own photography.
