Joanna Manousis
Joanna Manousis is a British American artist who creates both monumental and intimate-scale sculptures in glass, mirror, and mixed media. Her work often imitates other materials and recognizable objects, creating shifts in perception and an altered sense of reality for the viewer/wearer. Manousis is currently a PhD researcher at the National Glass Centre, Sunderland, United Kingdom, where her research focuses on three-dimensional cast glass mirrors as vehicles for artistic expression. Her “True Facets” series integrates both real gemstones and printed illustrations suspended in sheet glass. Each glass piece is meticulously hand polished and elevated in fine silver basket settings, providing a sense of dimensionality and grandeur, along with a push and pull between the real and the illusory.
