Hannah Tomoko Joris
Hannah Tomoko Joris (Belgium) is a contemporary jewelry designer who holds a PhD in the arts. Her practice began with a formative encounter with Paraguayan filigree jewelry, where she fell in love with goldsmithing and the expressive potential of metal wire.
Joris went on to study jewelry design in Belgium and jewelry art in Sweden, experiences that shaped both her technical and conceptual approach. In Belgium, she developed her signature tension-based, filigree-inspired wire technique, producing geometric, floral, and rhythmic lines that render her work instantly recognizable. In Sweden, she deepened her engagement with the human body, approaching it as both form and concept, and creating jewelry that exists in dialogue with its wearer. Joris’s work balances timeless elegance with bold innovation, rooted in themes of loss, belonging, and dual identity. She describes her jewelry as offering comfort through distinction, objects that act as lifelines, affirming presence through beauty.
