Giulia Boccafogli
Giulia Boccafogli, an Italian architect based in Como, makes leather jewelry rooted in the Made in Italy ethos. She uses fine Italian leather, carefully and personally selected exclusively from unused stock funds, and regenerates the material, giving it a second life. A love of research informs her practice, which centers on the investigation of the material itself. The resulting work appears to have come from a submerged imaginary place, or a garden that only exists from sunset to dawn. Her aesthetic lies midway between modern decadence and primitive simplicity, in which the concept of “accessory” seems to vanish, leaving in its place the idea of ornament as a great protagonist.
