Amy Lemaire is a multidisciplinary artist and educator based in New York. An explorer at heart, she makes work that reveals an interest in currency systems, material language poetics, and the production of histories. She was inspired to create the “Pollen Count” collection while studying microscopic images of pollen, using the technology of glass (lenses, microscopes, cameras, etc.) as a lens to extend her ability to consider the connections between nature and the human body. More recently, the pandemic experience has shifted our collective attention to zoom into the microscopic landscape of viruses and germs. Lemaire distills these microscopic forms into sculptural renderings, which she views as a metaphor not only for the human connection to nature but also for intellectual cross-pollination.
