Artist Studios Program alum and current summer studio resident Cynthia Alberto leads this workshop highlighting weaving techniques and sustainable practices. Following a brief demonstration of zero-waste/sustainability concepts, Alberto and members of her Brooklyn-based healing arts studio, Weaving Hand, will instruct participants in weaving on peg looms, which afford a greater degree of control over the finished product than do other types of loom. The workshop will focus on introductory weaving techniques, stylistic considerations when working on tapestries, and ways in which sustainable practices benefit the environment while facilitating the creation of stylistically unique work.
Materials will be provided; however, participants are encouraged to bring recyclable and fabric-based items (plastic or paper bags, old shirts, etc.) for incorporation into their project.
