Join artist Chris Woebken for a free drop-in preview of his film The House in the Sky in the Open Studios at MAD. Using a custom-built headset viewer, visitors will be able to view scenes that take place within a 3D computer-generated reconstruction of a midcentury home. The home of Albert Wohlstetter, known as “the real Dr. Strangelove”, was the meeting place for the first American think tanks created during the Cold War.
The House in the Sky recreates this environment as a virtual ‘stage’ for conversations not unlike the ones that happened within the real home during the 1950s. Visitors can watch interviews with a diverse group of today’s leading thinkers including Dr. Jacob Gaboury, NYU; Prof. Kevin Slavin, MIT Media Lab; Dr. Janna Levin, Columbia University; Prof. Nicola Masciandaro, CUNY; Claire Evans, author of New Art/Science Affinities; Dr. Gavin Schmidt Director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) and more.
Please review our health and safety protocols before you arrive. MAD strongly recommends all visitors six months and older are vaccinated against Covid-19 and visitors ages two and up wear face coverings, even if vaccinated. Thank you for your cooperation.
