Propping up of dance takes center stage in the world premiere of new work by costume designers Reid Bartelme and Harriet Jung. Commissioned for MAD’s performance series, Making a Scene: Objects for Performance, In Support Of presents the staging of dance works, all using a unique garment designed and constructed by Bartelme and Jung. This garment supports the body of the dancer, attaches a variety of props and objects to the dancer’s body, and also allows the dancer to be attached to the physical architecture of the museum. During this evening of dance, Bartelme and Jung’s creation uses a costume to make visible the network of support—created by the interplay of costumes, props, institution and even the audience—that allows a dancer to perform live.
