Join designer Katie Stout in MAD’s Artist Studio as she works on her newest creation, Flaccid Domesticity. Commissioned for the series Making a Scene: Objects for Performance, Flaccid Domesticity is a scenic environment comprised of series of props made from soft and loose materials—including plastics, fabrics and gels. Together these items subvert the domestic interiors of the home that continue to be designed and marketed towards women. During the course of this open studio, visitors may drop in and learn from the designer firsthand how she uses her skills in industrial design to reconsider and poke fun at the household objects that attempt to define gender.
