Learn about the basics of jewelry design and explore MAD’S contemporary jewelry collection. Many of the artists in the collection are attracted to the sculpture aspects of jewelry and the challenge of balancing form and mass in space on an intimate scale. Included in this group are artists whose shapes and structures are related to the principles of architecture and engineering, as well as those who create organic abstractions from nature and those who assume a minimalist approach that shuns ornament or figuration. Explore jewelry as body art and adornment, and its role as small scale wearable sculpture. Work with an artist/educator to turn your design ideas on paper to wearable art in metal.
