Join MAD’s Education department and artist Lexy Ho-Tai for an in-person workshop just for teachers. This program includes a curator-guided tour of the new exhibition, Garmenting: Costume as Contemporary Art, an artist talk, and hands-on art making with Ho-Tai, whose performance video The Kookers is featured in the exhibition.

In this playful workshop, Ho-Tai invites participants to explore and sit with the unknown through monsters! What is monstrous in and around us? How can we play in the depths? How are monsters extensions of ourselves? Participants will craft imaginative masks from upcycled materials and transform themselves into otherworldly beings in a project that’s perfect for the classroom!

New York State Educators will earn 2.5 CTLE hours.

About the Artist

Lexy Ho-Tai's multi-disciplinary art and teaching practice explores imaginative and tangible world-building through craft and play. Working in a range of mediums, her collaborative and participatory work employs humor, imagination, and absurdity to invite viewers to contemplate pressing social and environmental issues. She believes that joy is an act of resistance, and that play forges a powerful space for audiences to envision and work towards alternative futures. Residencies include the Watermill Center, Flux Factory, ARoS Museum, Everglades National Park, Museum of Arts and Design, Art Farm and Elsewhere Museum. Her work can be viewed at lexymakesthings.com
