Join Glenn Adamson, curator of MAD’s fall exhibition Nike: Form Follows Motion, and Nick Schonberger, Senior Director, Relationships & Culture, Nike Brand Communications, to hear untold stories and surprising discoveries surfaced during the development of the first ever exhibition dedicated to a comprehensive history of Nike’s global impact on design, innovation, sport, and society at large.
Adamson, whose scholarship has helped shape the global conversation around craft and material culture, was given unprecedented access to Nike’s archives of more than 250,00 objects to create an exhibition encompassing the whole of the company’s design universe. In this illuminating discussion, the curator and longtime leader of Nike’s brand narrative will share the stories and objects selected to tell the story of a global brand through its design and bring to life Nike’s constantly evolving approach to the design process.
About the speakers
Glenn Adamson is a writer and historian based in New York and London. A Trustee of the Museum of Arts and Design, he curated Nike: Form Follows Motion in his capacity as Curator at Large for the Vitra Design Museum in Germany. Glenn is also the author of A Century of Tomorrows (Bloomsbury, 2024) and editor of Material Intelligence, a quarterly online journal published by the Chipstone Foundation. Other current curatorial projects include “Hella Jongerius: Whispering Things” for the Vitra Design Museum and “Keith Haring in 3D” for the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
Nicholas Schonberger is Senior Director, Relationships & Culture, Nike Brand Communications. In his 11+ years at Nike, he has focused on sport culture, design, and the creation of a growing catalog of industry defining books on sneaker culture. Schonberger is a graduate of the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture and has written extensively about the history of tattooing.
