Puzzle of a Downfall Child follows the fall of former top fashion model Lou Andreas Sand, impeccably played by Faye Dunaway. In this tragic, surreally shot drama, she recalls her career in a series of flashbacks during a visit from the photographer who helped make her famous. 

Jerry Schatzberg was an established club owner and fashion photographer before turning his attention to filmmaking with his debut feature Puzzle of a Downfall Child.  His follow-up, Panic in Needle Park (1971), penned by Joan Didion and John Gregory Dunne, was an immediate cult favorite and early starring role for Al Pacino, who Schatzberg is often credited with discovering. Longtime friends with Anna Sui, Schatzberg and Sui first bonded over their love of music, and his photographic work with artists including the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan.
