Join artist and educator Lindaluz Carrillo for an open bar and hands-on workshop exploring banana leaf weaving! Drawing from her Peruvian heritage and family’s professional boxing legacy, Carrillo will share how banana leaves became an important material in her practice.  Participants will learn basic weaving techniques and create their own sculptural weavings using banana leaves, while exploring how materials can carry stories of family, identity, and cultural tradition. 

Design Happy Hour invites the public ages 21 and up to enjoy an open bar of wine and beer while exploring design techniques with some of the city's most exciting makers and creatives. All activities take place in the Museum’s studio classroom. 

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lindaluz Carrillo is a first generation Afro-Latina, multidisciplinary artist and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. She combines painting, drawing and sculpture as a way to channel her roots bridging her family's Peruviana heritage and boxing legacy. Her practice reflects topics such as grief, transformative healing and resilience. Lindaluz currently has a solo exhibition at Revolt Gallery in Taos, NM. She recently had a solo exhibition at The Celeste LeWitt Gallery at UConn Health and has participated in group shows such as Frost Gallery in Brooklyn,  Slipe gallery in Hartford, CT, El Barrio Art Space in Harlem, Art Gotham, NY and Miami art week in Florida. Lindaluz graduated from The Hartford Art School with a BFA in Visual Communication Design in 2016 and received her MFA in Fine Arts from School of Visual Arts in May 2026.
