Join master furniture maker, designer, sculptor, and educator, Wendell Castle—subject of Wendell Castle Remastered, the first museum exhibition to examine the artist’s digitally-crafted works—for an evening of exploring his prolific six-decade career. In this conversation, led by Glenn Adamson, Nanette L. Laitman Director of the Museum of Arts and Design, Castle will discuss his continuously evolving and innovative approaches to process and the creation of his iconic furniture.
Castle will focus on his groundbreaking achievements of the 1960s, which came to define his pivotal role as a leader in the field, as well as discussing his latest practice of combining handcraftsmanship with digital technologies, specifically through the use of 3D scanning, computer aided design (CAD) software, and a computer numerical control (CNC) machine outfitted with various routing bits and affectionately dubbed Mr. Chips.
