Make Your Own Mini-Sculptures, Warm Up in a Dance Workshop

It's All about Getting Creative

New York, NY (January 11, 2012)

Bring your kids, friends, and the entire family to the Museum of Arts and Design at 2 Columbus Circle, for an entire day of art, creativity, laughter at MAD’s Family Fun Day—an intergenerational program for parents, grandparents, and children ages six and older.

Starting with a tour led by educators, check out the exhibition Korean Eye: Energy and Matter, an exciting collection of contemporary works by South Korean artists, never before seen in the US.

Next, meet Open Studio artist David Choi and see him make jewelry with origami-like shapes and 3D topographical renderings.

Later, with the help of MAD educators and docents, use different storytelling ideas inspired by Korean Eye to create mythological beings and action superheroes out of paper and mini-theatrical animation frames from popsicle sticks, cellophane, magazines and fabric.

In addition, watch some Korean animated films in the Public Programs room—Oh-Sung Kwon’s Doggy Poo, Hyung-Yun Chang’s Coffee Samurai, and Seong-kang Lee’s critically-acclaimed My Beautiful Girl, Mari. Did you know that many of our most popular animated tv series—shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy—are hand-drawn by South Korean animators?

And the fun doesn’t end there! Join acclaimed choreographer/performance artist Jack Ferver, and dancer Burr Johnson, in a playful dance workshop to help shake off the winter blues—and then watch them in a dance performance in the Theater.
