Philanthropy Officer

(Full-Time / Permanent)

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) is seeking a motivated Philanthropy Officer to support the Institutional Advancement team. The Philanthropy Officer is a key member of the Institutional Advancement team, responsible for raising upwards of $500,000 to support MAD’s exhibitions, programs, and operations. Working in partnership with the Deputy Director, other senior staff, and the Board of Trustees, the Philanthropy Officer builds, cultivates, and stewards relationships with donors capable of making annual gifts of $10,000 and above.

This role will report to the Deputy Director, Institutional Advancement and works collaboratively with colleagues across the museum. The ideal candidate for this position has a track record of growth and success in fundraising, is detail-oriented, organized, collaborative, and kind.

COMPENSATION and SCHEDULE

This is a full-time, exempt position with compensation between $75,000–$90,000 per annum, depending upon experience. Office hours are 9:30am–5:30pm, Monday through Friday, but nights and weekends are required from time to time. One remote day (either Monday or Friday) is permissible.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build, manage, and solicit a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, with the goal of deepening their engagement with MAD and increasing their giving.
  • Conceptualize and implement innovative strategies to engage new prospects and upgrade current supporters.
  • Oversee the tracking of moves management and related action items for donors and prospects, including leading regular moves management meetings.
  • Keep donors informed about the impact of their contributions and the museum’s achievements; drafting emails, newsletter features, and other correspondence.
  • Steward and manage consistent communications with Patron groups such as: The Jewelry Circle and the Sustainer and Benefactor levels of Membership.
  • Collaborate with other museum departments to create tailored pitch decks and proposals, and to provide donors with unique and exclusive experiences.
  • Support the Deputy Director with preparation for donor and trustee meetings, and as a thought partner in planning for annual appeals and special campaigns.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and workflow management in Raiser’s Edge NXT.
  • Monitor that a timely and accurate donor acknowledgment process is in place.

COLLABORATION

  • Work collaboratively with the Institutional Advancement team to ensure that efforts align with the team’s overall fundraising goal, and the museum’s strategic plan
  • Establish strong working relationships with Marketing, Program and Curatorial staff to create accurate and informative messaging to increase donor awareness of Museum programming and initiatives.
  • Plan cultivation events, and lead off-site visits to locations of interest to patrons
  • Attend and assist with special events, cultivation efforts, and site visits, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, arts administration, business administration or equivalent combination of 5+ years of experience sufficient to successfully perform essential functions of the job.
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in a donor-facing role in Development.
  • Proven track record of successfully soliciting and closing gifts of $10,000+
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, creatively, and analytically.
  • A warm, diplomatic approach and the ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
  • Exceptional level of organization and project management skills.
  • Ability to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, follow-through proactively, and meet deadlines with little supervision.
  • Desire to be part of a team with the capacity to work well independently.
  • Familiarity with trends in philanthropy.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Teams, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working within a Raiser’s Edge database and NXT.
