Manager of Teen and Intergenerational Programs

(Full-Time / Permanent)

The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) seeks a Manager of Teen and Intergenerational Programs to join the Education department. This public-facing position is responsible for the development, planning, coordination, and production of inventive and inclusive intergenerational programs. Key responsibilities including overseeing the operations and public-facing engagement of MAD’s Project Space, a lively space on the 6th floor featuring drop-in making activations during the day, and managing and leading Artslife, MAD's dynamic intensive program for New York City high school students. In this role, our ideal candidate will work collaboratively MAD’s Manager of Public Programs, and Senior Manager of School and Teacher Programs to enrich education programming and develop outreach strategies to connect MAD’s vision as an accessible and inclusive environment for people of diverse backgrounds, ages and abilities to engage in experiences and conversations on art, craft and design.

This role will report to the Deputy Director of Education and will require collaboration not only with the education department, as well as cross-departmentally with colleagues across the Museum.

The Museum of Arts and Design has a mission to explore how craftsmanship, art, and design intersect in the visual arts today. Through its exhibitions, programming, and collection, MAD promotes a view of the world unobstructed by traditional definitions of fine art.

COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULE

This is a full-time, exempt position with compensation of $66,300 per annum.

Generally, we expect working hours for this role to be TUES through SAT 9:30am–5:30pm, which includes an unpaid hour for lunch at a minimum of 35 hours per week. This position requires on-site presence and ongoing availability to work occasional evenings and holidays aligned with the event schedule.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning, development, and implementation of intergenerational programming
  • Daily management and maintenance of MAD’s Project Space and project space activities
  • Interacting with the public on MAD’s 6th floor
  • Partnering with the manager of public programs on ongoing intergenerational initiatives including our annual family Halloween party and Open House event
  • Planning, development, and implementation of programs for our teen audiences including Artslife, MAD's summer intensive for New York City High School Students, and school break Recess programs
  • Managing MAD’s current slate of Access programs in collaboration with MAD’s Manager of Public Programs
  • Liaises and coordinates with internal Museum departments as needed for pre-execution of programs (including Curatorial, Exhibitions, Marketing and Communications, Visitor Engagement, Facilities, etc.)
  • Commitment to MAD’s mission in all aspects of audience engagement, recruitment, mentorship support, and curriculum development
  • Budget management, tracking and reporting of programming efforts and attendance reporting on a monthly and ad hoc basis
  • Collaborate with Institutional Advancement department for funding opportunities
  • Creating a welcoming and accessible environment for visitors to MAD of all ages and abilities

This role is within our small and mighty Education department, and there will be additional opportunities to provide support and act as thought partner to your fellow colleagues within the team on various projects and additional programming opportunities. We are eager to hear your fresh ideas!

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree expected with graduate work in art history, arts management, museum education or related field a plus, but experience is the most important qualification.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience developing and implementing museum programming for diverse audiences
  • Ability to function well in a face-paced, public facing, and creative environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence with the ability to establish and maintain relationships.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of the contemporary art, craft, and design landscape
  • Ability to work in other languages, or otherwise support MAD’s bilingual education programs a plus
  • A solid understanding of successful gallery inquiry methods and hands-on teaching strategies.
