Upon the creation of a teleportation device, a scientist decides to test its abilities on himself, unknowingly trapping a housefly with him. He soon learns that his experiment has gone wrong, as the fly’s cells take over his body, slowly transforming him into a human-insect hybrid. Director David Cronenberg combines grotesque body horror with romantic tragedy as the film’s protagonist grapples with disconnects between his body and mind, drawing themes of aging, disease and emotional impact of bodily deterioration on loved ones.
