Mercedes Castro Corbat was born in Argentina, where she designs contemporary jewelry and teaches accessory design at the University of Buenos Aires. Her diverse body of work fluctuates between two different contexts, the public and the very intimate. She creates pieces that have a strong visual impact, generating and examining ideas and finding connections between concepts, materials, and processes. Her practice takes place at the intersection of art, design, and craft. She tends to work with recycled and found materials, from paper and lightweight textiles to bicycle inner tubes and X-ray film, using her scissors to give them a new life and meaning.
