Christian Moses works primarily in clay. A Brooklyn native, he uses memory as a starting point to make lasting impressions of the city he remembers. Moses creates functional ceramics and sculptural pieces that nod to iconic underground NYC historical movements, often highlighting iconic fashion—gold jewelry, Pelle Pelle jackets, BB Simon belts and more. Moses uses cartoon imagery and humor as entry points to more pressing issues of gentrification and discrimination, creating work that is rich with context and symbolism.
Christian Moses was an artist-in-residence at BKLYN Clay and a held a Public Ceramics Fellowship at Gasworks NYC in 2021. His playful line, Handle With Care by Christian Moses, launched in 2020, and features one-of-a kind, hand painted, home goods.
